2009-10 DC ROLLERGIRLS SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

League Opens Fourth Season at DC Armory on September 27

Washington, D.C. – The DC Rollergirls are ready to rumble! The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission and DC Rollergirls today announced the 2009-10 DC Rollergirls schedule at the DC Armory.

The District’s own all-female roller derby league brings hard-hitting, rough and tumble skate action back to the DC Armory beginning Sunday, September 27 with the league championship set for Saturday, April 10.
The league’s three teams - the DC DemonCats, Scare Force One and the Cherry Blossom Bombshells - play a total of six regular season bouts prior to the league championship bout. In addition, the DC All-Stars, comprised of members of all DC teams, will host and compete in two special non-league bouts during the season (complete schedule listed below).

“It’ll be another exciting DC Rollergirls season at the DC Armory,” said Erik A. Moses, CEO of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission. “You can’t beat the overall fan experience at Rollergirls’ bouts - there is energy, excitement and serious competition as well. Whether you are a veteran fan or newcomer to roller derby, you don’t want to miss the great action and electric environment for this season’s bouts.”

On September 27, the DC DemonCats begin defense of their 2009 title against Scare Force One, winners of league titles in 2007 and 2008. The Cherry Blossom Bombshells are seeking their first league title after falling to the DemonCats in the championship bout last season.

“The DC Rollergirls are pumped for the start of our season and look forward to welcoming both new and old fans to the DC Armory,” said Ovary Action, president of the DC Rollergirls. “The resurgence of interest in roller derby around the country is tremendous and this year, our teams are as good as they’ve ever been. Our fans are going to see some great competition.”

DC Rollergirls fans get to see two bouts for the price of one all season. Following the format from past years, an expo bout will be held prior to each main bout featuring a DC Rollergirls squad against a visiting roller derby team.

This season, the competition start time has been moved up one hour; doors will now open to the public at 3 p.m. with competition starting at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and up, $6 for children 6-11 and free for kids 5 and under. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com or at the door on bout day.
The DC Armory is easily accessible by the Metro on the Blue and Orange lines (Stadium-Armory station) and numerous bus lines. Secured parking is also available.
