DC SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT COMMISSION BOARD NAMES ERIK A. MOSES CEO
(Washington, DC) – Today, Erik A. Moses begins his tenure as the new chief executive officer of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC). Moses succeeds Gregory A. O’Dell who will become the chief executive officer and general manager of the Washington Convention Center.
Prior to joining DCSEC, Moses was the director of the District’s Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) where he led the agency through a major overhaul in scope of services, efficiency of processes and expansion of staff and budget. Moses is primed to lead DCSEC as the organization sharpens its focus on promoting sporting and entertainment events in the District now that the Nationals Ballpark project has been successfully completed.
“This is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the Board and staff on meeting challenges that we will face together,” said Moses. “I am committed to making DCSEC the premier sports and entertainment agency in the nation by focusing on attracting and producing high-quality events for the enjoyment of District residents.”
Moses began his career as an attorney representing communications companies for Dow Lohnes, PLLC. After leaving private practice, he joined AOL Time Warner which would eventually launch him into the business side of entertainment deals and later into an entrepreneurial venture as co-founder of private investment partnership Legacy Holdings, LLC.
“Erik’s extensive business experience in the public and private sectors and his legal background make him well suited to lead this dynamic organization at a critical time in its history,” said Matthew Cutts, DCSEC Board Chairman. “His leadership and expertise will be great resources for the organization as we seek to bring more enthusiasm, visibility and vital economic infusion to the District.”
A vibrant public leader, lawyer and businessman, Moses’ love for athletics was fueled by attending sports powerhouse universities – University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Duke University School of Law receiving a Juris Doctorate specializing in sports and entertainment law.
“Sports and entertainment historically have played a major role in the cultural vibrancy of this city,” added Moses, whose inner sports fan is apparent as he touts District teams past and present, including the Homestead Grays, Senators, Nationals, Redskins, D.C. United, Wizards, Capitals, Kastles and DC Rollergirls. “There are exciting times ahead and it is important to ensure District residents that DCSEC is the center for sports and entertainment.”
