LA Galaxy’s David Beckham Returns to RFK Stadium To Face D.C. United
Over 32,000 tickets sold and select tickets still available
(Washington, DC) – Los Angeles Galaxy’s David Beckham makes his second appearance this Sunday, June 29th at RFK Stadium with a noon kickoff when his team takes on host D.C. United, who’s currently riding a five-game unbeaten streak. The two offensive powerhouses are the highest scoring teams in the league as LA Galaxy is in first place in the western conference, and D.C. United is currently tied for fourth. With more than 32,000 tickets already sold for Sunday’s match that will be televised live on ABC, select tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling D.C. United at 202-587-5000 or visit www.washDCsports.com.
“We’re especially excited when D.C. United is playing on our world-class field but even more thrilled for fans and the community when we have a packed house at RFK,” said Erik A. Moses, DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) chief executive officer. “We’re looking forward to a great match and an enjoyable experience for all in attendance.”
Beckham made his first appearance last year at RFK which helped generate a sold out crowd, the biggest debut for a foreign star in a U.S. soccer league since Pele arrived in 1975, and this year promises to be just as electrifying. And despite the nearly five inches of rainfall in the last few weeks - an inch and a half more than normal - the turf remains in great shape.
Due to the high volume of fans, the Sports and Entertainment Commission announced recommended travel tips for patrons attending the match at RFK:
1. Fans are encouraged to arrive early; parking lots will open at 8:00 am on game day, and stadium gates will open at 10:30 am. DCSEC asks drivers to allow extra time for travel as the Washington Nationals will be playing nearby at 1:30 pm.
2. DCSEC suggests fans utilize Metro, which will have extra trains on standby before and after the game. RFK Stadium is located at the Stadium/Armory stop on the Orange and Blue lines.
The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission will also host a home match for the semifinal round qualifier for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Oct. 11th where the U.S. will face either Cuba or Antigua & Barbuda at RFK Stadium. That match is slated to begin at 4 pm ET and be broadcast live on ESPN Classic and Galavision.
