DC Sports & Entertainment Commission Offers District Youth Free Tickets to the AT&T National PGA Tour
(Washington, DC) – Today, the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) announced that free tickets will be offered to youth from College Bound, Dunbar, Roosevelt and Wilson Senior High Schools’ golf teams as well as the winners of the D.C. Stars and Strikes Youth Baseball City Showcase for the second annual AT&T National. The PGA tour golf tournament is being held Thursday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 6th at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
“It us gives us great pleasure to be able to offer complimentary tickets to District youth who may not have otherwise had the chance to watch some of the world’s greatest golfers tee up at this premier sporting event,” said Erik A. Moses, DC Sports and Entertainment Commission chief executive officer. “These kids will have a special opportunity to be exposed to the great game of golf and one of the truly historic golf courses in our nation.”
This golf tournament, created by Tiger Woods, raises funds for the Tiger Woods Foundation and various youth programs supported in the Washington, DC area. The event is expected to draw some of golf’s brightest stars including Defending 2007 Champion K.J. Choi, Jim Furyk, Davis Love III, Charles Howell III, Fred Funk, Zach Johnson, Trevor Immleman, Fred Couples, Drew Weaver, Anthony Kim, Rocco Mediate and Stuart Appleby. Woods, however, will not be hitting the green, as he is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.
“I am honored that the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission is donating tickets to the Tiger Woods Golf Tournament to the winners of our Stars & Strikes Youth Baseball Showcase,” said Ward 5 Councilmember Harry “Tommy” Thomas, Jr. “Attending the golf tournament will be an experience these kids will remember for many years to come.”
“This is a small gesture that promotes golf to District youth while allowing the Sports and Entertainment Commission to give back to the community we serve,” added Moses.
