‘23rd Annual Mayor’s Cup - Invitational AmateurBoxing Tournament’ 

Hosted by the Boxing Information Center and the Midtown Youth Academy August 22nd & 23rd at Kennedy Recreation Center

(Washington, DC) – “Boxing keeps a person in top shape physically and mentally.  It’s also a great way to learn about self-discipline and endurance. I applaud the participants in the ‘23rd Annual Mayor’s Cup’ and wish them all a good fight.”  The Honorable Mayor Adrian M. Fenty

Come out and participate as we celebrate the ‘23rd Annual Mayor’s Cup’ – celebrating our rich history of boxing in our nation’s capital - the District of Columbia.  On behalf of Nat Williams and Ted Trabue, Jr. of the Boxing Information Center, Eugene Hughes of the Midtown Youth Academy, and invitees:
The Honorable Adrian M. Fenty, Clark E. Ray of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation,
Erik A. Moses of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, and Jason E. Turner of the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission – join us on Friday, August 22nd & Saturday, August 23rd  at the Kennedy Recreation Center (7th & P Sts., NW – Washington, DC) for a family fun filled weekend of amateur boxing.  This years Annual Mayor’s Cup promises to bring some of the most talented amateur boxers, both young men and young women ranging in age from 8 years of age and up, from cities across the country, including the Washington, DC area;  New York; New Jersey; and Philadelphia, together for two days of competitive boxing and athletic bonding. 

With a mission to provide boxing opportunities to the youth in the Washington, DC area – the Boxing Information Center is committed to providing a friendly forum where up and coming boxers are able to compete.  The Mayor’s Cup is just one of many opportunities that area boxing clubs and fighters have to showcase their skills.  Following in the footsteps of some of DC’s great boxers including Sugar Ray Leonard, Sharmba Mitchell, Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley, Keith Holmes, Darryll Tyson, William Joppy, Eric Aiken, Andrew Council, Derrell Coley, Maurice Blocker, Tony Thompson, Darnell Wilson, Anthony Lamont Peterson, Gary Russell and Clarence Vinson  to name a few. 

23rd Annual Mayor’s Cup Events:
- Kick Off Press Conference - Thurs., August 21 st at 3pm
- Opening Ceremony - Fri., August 22nd ; Free Admission ; Doors at 3pm / Ceremony at 4:30  
- Boxing Invitational Tournament - Fri & Sat., Aug 22nd& 23 rd; Free Admission; 4:30p to 11pm
