Nationals Park Artworks To Be Unveiled During Public Ceremony on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:00am

Artworks Include Three Sculptures in Center Field Plaza and Suspended Artwork at Home Plate Gate

What: The new public artworks located in the Nationals Park Center Field Plaza and at the Home Plate Gate will be unveiled during a public ceremony on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:00am.  Three sculptures of Washington Senators Frank Howard and Walter Johnson, and Homestead Grays player Josh Gibson, created by Omri Amrany; and The Ballgame, a suspended artwork created by Walter Kravitz will be unveiled.  All pieces were  commissioned by the DC Creates Public Arts Program and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) in collaboration with the Washington Nationals Baseball Club, the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) and HOK Sport.

The unveiling ceremony will be emcee’d by baseball historian and MASN contributor Phil Wood. Program participants include the artists, and representatives from the DCCAH, DCSEC and Washington Nationals Baseball Club. Sean Gibson (the great-grandson of Josh Gibson), Frank Howard, and Carolyn Johnson Thomas and Hank Thomas, (the daughter and grandson of Walter Johnson), have been invited to attend the event.

Media parking is available in Nationals Park Garage C, located on the corner of First and N Street, SE. Media and guests should enter the ballpark at the Center Field Gates, located at Half and N Street, SE.
