COMPETITION IS NAME OF THE GAME AT RFK STADIUM-DC ARMORY CAMPUS THIS WEEKEND
D.C. United, University of Maryland Men’s Soccer, DPW/DDOT Professional Equipment Roadeo and DC Rollergirls Highlight the Action
(Washington, DC) – The RFK Stadium-DC Armory campus is the site of four competitions this weekend, pitting team against team, and skill against skill in some traditional and not so traditional events.
The action-packed weekend begins Friday with a soccer double-header at RFK Stadium, when the reigning national champion Maryland men’s soccer team takes on Wake Forest at 4 p.m. in a spring exhibition game and D.C. United faces off against the New England Revolution at 7 p.m. in a regular season MLS contest.
On this night, D.C. United hosts ‘College Night’ as student groups and organizations can purchase advance tickets to both games for $15 apiece until noon Friday and sit adjacent to United supporters’ groups, La Barra Brava and Screaming Eagles. On match day, students who present their college IDs at the gate can purchase $18 Spectator tickets and $23 Premium tickets.

Saturday will kick-off with some heavy-hitting competition in the form of a Professional Equipment Roadeo, sponsored by the D.C. Department of Public Works (DPW) and the D.C. Department of Transportation (DDOT). The Roadeo is an annual competition in which DPW/DDOT employees test their skills with heavy road, and other large, vehicle equipment such as snow plows, tow trucks, bucket trucks, front end loaders, and other vehicles used to clean, clear and maintain the city’s infrastructure.
During the competition, drivers take their machines through an obstacle course of challenges and compete for an opportunity to advance to the American Public Works Association Regional Equipment Roadeo. The Roadeo is free to the public and takes place in RFK Stadium Lots 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr., DDOT Director Gabe Klein and D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser (Ward 4) and other local personalities will compete between 9 – 10 a.m.
Saturday evening features the last regular season bout for the DC Rollergirls as the Cherry Blossom Bombshells and Scare Force One go head-to-head at the DC Armory. The victor will meet the DC DemonCats in the league championship set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
In the expo bout on Saturday, the DemonCats lineup against the Coal City Rollers from Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Tickets for the DC Rollergirls bout are just $12 for ages 12 and up, $6 for children 6-11 and free for kids 5 and under. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com or at the door on bout day.
RFK Stadium and the DC Armory are both easily accessible by the Metro on the Blue and Orange lines (Stadium-Armory station) and numerous bus lines. Secured parking is also available.
