INAUGURAL CONGRESSIONAL BANK SOFTBALL CLASSIC DEBUTS MAY 16 AT GUY MASON RECREATION CENTER
Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman to serve as honorary chair; Congressional Bank Softball Classic added in Year 2
(Washington, DC) – The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission announced today that the inaugural Congressional Bank Softball Classic will debut Saturday, May 16 at the Guy Mason Recreation Center.
The day’s events will include softball teams from D.C. public high schools competing in a city competition and an All-Star game featuring the top high school players from around the District. The Congressional Bank Softball Classic joins the Congressional Bank Baseball Classic in providing D.C. student-athletes an opportunity to play in a city competition and be recognized for exemplary on-field achievement. The Congressional Bank Baseball Classic is scheduled for May 30 at Nationals Park.
“We are pleased to join with Congressional Bank in expanding the competitions to include the Congressional Bank Softball Classic,” said Erik Moses, CEO of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission.
This year’s schedule will feature three games and a free clinic:
10 a.m. DCIAA championship game
12:15 p.m. Free Skills Clinic (with Washington Glory’s Amber Jackson)
2 p.m. All-Star Game
4:15 p.m. Congressional Bank Softball Classic Championship Game
Washington Glory short stop Amber Jackson, who played collegiately at the University of Maryland, will conduct a Free Skills Clinic for females ages 10-18. Admission to the Congressional Bank Softball Classic is free. |
