DC ROLLERGIRLS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
SET FOR MAY 9 AT DC ARMORY
* Cherry Blossom Bombshells and DC DemonCats battle for league title
* Championship day activities to include NASCAR Showcar Exhibit and halftime performance by the Greenbelt (Md.) S.I.T.Y. Stars
(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, May 9, a new DC Rollergirls League Champion will be crowned at the DC Armory. Scare Force One captured the first two league titles but fell to the Cherry Blossom Bombshells in double-overtime in the last bout of the regular season. With the thrilling victory, the Bombshells advanced to meet the first-place DC DemonCats in the DCRG League Championship bout in what should be a classic matchup of finesse, skill and of course, hard-hitting, nail-biting non-stop action. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the action begins at 5 p.m.
“This has been a great season for the DC Rollergirls with the intense competition and enthusiastic response and attendance by fans,” said Erik Moses, CEO of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission. “Both of these teams are hungry for their first league title so this should be a classic end to an amazing season.”
Scare Force One defeated the DemonCats in the 2008 championship and the Bombshells in the inaugural title bout in 2007. This season, the DemonCats posted a 3-1 record with the squad’s lone loss coming at the hands of the Bombshells in the season opener. The Bombshells finished in second place with a 2-2 mark.
Nascar In The House
The Rollergirls won’t be the only showpiece on four wheels at the DC Armory on Saturday. The gleaming No. 38 Great Clips Toyota showcar, which matches the NASCAR race car driven by Jason Leffler in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, will be on display for viewing and picture-taking throughout the evening. Leffler has been racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series since 2000 and specifically for Braun Racing since 2005.
Double Dutch Champs and Body Armor
Halftime of the championship bout features the Greenbelt (Md.) S.I.T.Y. Stars, a renowned double dutch team that has gained a national reputation for its spectacular jump rope capabilities. Under the direction of Kim Bradshaw, the 2006 and 2007 grand national jump rope champion, the Greenbelt (Md.) S.I.T.Y. Stars have performed all over the country including the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans.
Other entertainment during the evening will include a show-stopping performance by the Body Armor, the dance team for the DC Armor, D.C.’s indoor football team. And prior to the championship bout, Scare Force One will skate against Richmond’s River City Rollergirls in the exhibition bout.
