RFK STADIUM HOSTS “HOOP IT UP” 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL COMPETITION THIS WEEKEND
Team featuring U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan wins division
and qualifies for World Championship in Louisville, Ky.
Washington, D.C. – More than 60 teams converged upon the RFK Stadium grounds this weekend for the Hoop It Up tour’s Washington, D.C. stop. Together, the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission and Best Experiential Properties brought Hoop It Up, the largest 3on3 basketball tournament in the world, back to D.C.
The division champions and top four teams in each division are listed below. The top four teams in each division automatically qualify for the World Championship tournament July 25-26 in Louisville, Ky.
The team led by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, named Ariel Slow and Steady, were co-division champions with Ariel Investments in Division 1 – Men’s Top Flight. The Ariel Investments team was led by Ariel Chairman and CEO John W. Rogers, Jr.
Maryland Congresswoman Donna Edwards attended the competition on Sunday to watch her son, Jared Coleman, who played with the Dream Killers in Division 2 – Men’s Competitive. Coleman’s team qualified for the World Championship tournament.
The Hoop It Up Slam Dunk contest was held Saturday afternoon. The slam dunk contest, which was open to all tournament players and the general public, was won by Kenny Dobbs, who earned a perfect score of 30 and a rousing standing ovation for his final dunk. Erik Moses, CEO of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, served as one of three judges for the slam dunk contest.
